Barrio de Tubac Map
Charles Mingus was one of the
most important, innovative and groundbreaking musicians of the 20th century, and a virtuoso bassist. Most people don’t know he was born in Nogales, Arizona in Santa Cruz County on April 22, 1922 when his father was based there with a Buffalo Soldier regiment.

We are proudly presenting the Charles Mingus Centennial Jazz Celebration in two Santa Cruz County locations: Nogales on April 23, 2022 and
Tubac on April 30, 2022.

The Tubac Mingus Centennial Jazz Fiesta will be held in the beautiful Barrio De Tubac Park just off Exit 34 from Interstate 19 , just south of Green Valley, AZ, about a half hour south of the center of Tucson and the intersection of I-10 on I-19 South.

A day of live music, with artists and food trucks, joy and love in the spirit of Charles Mingus. Headlined by the renowned Alan Lewine AZ Xtet and Max Beckman’s Mingus Band, we will also warm up with outstanding student bands from the area.

Produced by Owlsong Productions in collaboration with the Tubac Center for the Arts and others. We are still raising funds to make this free event possible. Please consider clicking below to make a tax deductible donation. If you are a business that would like recognition and visibility on posters, this website and at the Park, please contact tubac@owlsong.com.
